VISUAL ARTS PART TWO 34 REGISTER ONLINE: classweb.townofcary.org Mixed Media Creating with Colored Pencils & Watercolors (age 16 & up) Colored pencils are a fun, safe, and a portable way to express oneself artistically. They are perfect for the beginning artist, precise for the commercial illustrator, and expressive for fine artists. Learn about the materials, techniques, and how colored pencils can be partnered with watercolor and colored papers. Supply list provided on receipt. Instructor: Eric McRay Fees: $71(R) $93(N) (5 classes) 104101 Mon Jun 12–Jul 17 7–9 p.m. (no class Jul 3) Painting & Mixed Media (age 16 & up) Express yourself as you create with mixed mediums! Use vibrant acrylic paint and tar gel. Learn brush techniques, composition, color-mixing, and interesting special effects to create a unique piece of original art. Instructor: Catherine Griffin Fees: $84(R) $109(N) (4 classes) 104102 Tue Aug 8–29 6:30–9:30 p.m. Metals and Jewelry Setting the Stone (age 16 & up) Learn multiple setting techniques to incorporate cabochons and faceted gemstones in jewelry designs. Variations of bezel settings, flush settings (gypsy), and prong or basket settings will be covered. Students should bring 3mm and 8mm round faceted stones plus a Cabochon. Students should have completed an intermediate or orientation class. Instructor: David Tomlin Fees: $108(R) $138(N) (6 classes) 104316 Mon Jun 5–Jul 10 6:30–9:30 p.m. Beginning Metals & Jewelry (age 16 & up) Learn basic metalsmithing techniques to create jewelry and small objects/sculptures. Silver soldering, sawing, forging, finishing, and surface embellishments are just some of the techniques covered. Supplies can be purchased at the Center. Successful completion of this class satisfies your eligibility for an Open Studio Membership Pass. Instructor: Linda Simpson Fees: $135(R) $165(N) (6 classes) 104314 Tue Jun 20–Aug 1 6:30–9:30 p.m. Intro to Lapidary— Cabochons (age 16 & up) Learn basic skills to plan, select material, and use machines and tools to cut, shape, and polish semi- precious and precious gemstone. Create Cabochons in variations of shapes for use in jewelry designs. Setting the stones will also be covered. Metals and stones are available for purchase through the Center. Refine your metalworking skills focusing on design and construction. Students will design and develop new projects of interest, tackling projects such as band ring designs, Cabochon stone setting, small objects, and more!
