SPECIAL EVENTS 6 REGISTER ONLINE: classweb.townofcary.org PART ONE INDEPENDENCE DAY EVENTS e Independence Eve Celebration Monday, July 3 | Free Preshow with Applause! Cary Youth Theatre | 6:30 p.m. Cary Town Band | 7:30 p.m. Cary Arts Center This year the band presents its 30th annual pre-4th of July patriotic celebration saluting our military service personnel past and present who have helped secure our freedom and liberty. This year's celebration will focus on the Declaration of Independence. There'll be tunes from the times and other music recalling the document itself and the spirit of liberty it engendered. You'll be happily entertained and inspired. Independence Olde Time Celebration Tuesday, July 4 | 8 a.m. | Free Fred G. Bond Metro Park, Boathouse Join us for an old-fashioned celebration of our nation's birth. It's sure to be lots of fun for the entire family! Along with activities, the boathouse will be open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. FISHING TOURNAMENT—WATERFRONT 8–10 a.m. Prizes awarded for the largest and smallest length fish and other categories. Registration opens at 7:20 a.m. at the waterfront. PARADE PREPARATIONS— KIWANIS SHELTER 9:30–10:30 a.m. Decorate your bike, trike, stroller, wagon, scooter, or battery- powered kid's vehicle (no gas-powered vehicles). The theme is "American Pride." Limited supplies provided; you are welcome to provide your own supplies or come already prepared. Supplies and assistance provided by Cary Teen Council. PARADE IN THE PARK—KIWANIS SHELTER 10:30 a.m. Show your American pride! Ride, stroll, and parade through the park to the Boathouse. Awards will be given in various age groups. Spectators of all ages are welcome to walk with your youngster or watch from the side. We will end at the Boathouse to start the remainder of the festivities. FAMILY CONTESTS—BOATHOUSE 11 a.m. This event features a donut-eating contest, lakeside Olympics, a watermelon-eating contest, a watermelon seed-spitting contest, a water-balloon toss, and sidewalk decorating. We will have sidewalk chalk but welcome you to bring your own, too. Age groups for all events: 5 & under, 6–10, 11–17, and 18 & up. July 4th Celebration at Koka Booth Amphitheatre Tuesday, July 4 | 3–10 p.m. Koka Booth Amphitheatre Patriotic performances and music combined with family- friendly activities in an atmosphere that is second to none make this an event not to be missed! As the last note fades, the celebration is capped off with a spectacular fireworks display. Kids young and old will want to take a ride on the Ferris wheel, which offers a stunning view of Symphony Lake. There will also be an array of contests, magicians, scavenger hunts, rides, and more! SCHEDULE OF EVENTS 3 p.m. Gates open to blankets, lawn chairs, and picnics. 3–7 p.m. Kids activities, Ferris wheel, Berry-Go-Round, American Hot Shot, scavenger hunt, and more! 4:30–6 p.m. Watermelon eating, ice cream eating, and cornhole contests. 5:45 p.m. Cary Town Band on Koka Booth Stage. 7:30 p.m. NC Symphony on Koka Booth Stage. SPECIAL RESERVED SEATING Booth Amphitheatre is once again offering Crescent table seating for purchase. The price is $40 per seat and includes Lumpy's Ice cream and preferred parking. Tickets may be purchased at the Amphitheatre Box Office or online at www.etix.com. Please note: Tarps, blankets, and chairs are allowed on the lawn. Staking and tents are not permitted.
