Marvelous Music Series Hosted at the Cary Arts Center, the Series presented a sold-out performance of the musical "Pump Boys and Dinettes." The Family Series hosted another sold- out show, "Children's Theater of Charlotte presents Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." Chinese Lantern Festival The festival returned for the second year to Koka Booth Amphitheatre. Attendance topped 90,000, which was a 58% increase over last year. The Festival added nightly performances by Chinese dancers, acrobats and martial artists that added to the cultural richness of the event. Koka Booth won Best Live Music Venue in Cary by Cary Magazine for the fifth year in a row. Recognizing Dr. Martin Luther King January kicked off with a series of events inspired by the works and words of Dr. King, Jr. These included two art exhibitions and a special Black History display on the "Life of Rev. John Meadows," who was the principal of the Cary Colored School as well as a practicing minister. As part of Dreamfest, "Tellebration" featured three African-American storytellers in a program designed to engage families with younger children. And The Cary hosted "Poetry Fest." Both of these new events were well attended by engaged citizens. Red Carpet Party The Cary hosted the first live Oscars broadcast (Red Carpet Party). This was attended by 54 people. This is the first planned live-TV event hosted by The Cary. The crowd was engaged with Oscar Bingo and a VIP reception was held for Cary Film Circle members.
