In January, the Town awarded 33 organizations with funding through our Lazy Daze Grant program. A total of $40,000 was distributed to be used for a variety of projects. Share & Care Event Town of Cary volunteers have "Hearts of Gold!" The annual banquet was held on March 15 and featured Town Manager, Sean Stegall, as the keynote speaker. Sean spoke about volunteerism while guests enjoyed a barbecue meal. Volunteer awards were presented to individuals in nine categories. The Silent Auction at the event raised over $6,000. Wheelchair Baskbetball The 3rd annual Share & Care event was held at Herb Young Community Center and it was another big success. This year's event grew to over 40 agencies/organizations being represented and over 170 people in attendance. The event is provided to persons with disabilities, their parents and care providers. This allows them an opportunity to find out what services the community has to offer. This event also serves as an excellent networking opportunity for agencies, parents and organizations. The Endless Sports 4th annual wheelchair basketball tournament was held in March at Bond Park Community Center. This event featured 20 teams of kids without disabilities who learned to "roll with it" as they competed in a wheelchair tournament. The tournament encourages kids without disabilities to become aware of the obstacles faced by athletes with physical challenges every time they take court. Staff from Bridge2Sports, a nonprofit that creates opportunities for children and adults who are physically challenged to play sports, was on hand to assist. Volunteer Recognition Banquet This quarter, Relief for Recreation raised $10,024, which provided scholarship assistance to 49 citizens.
