WASTEWATER TREATMENT PROCESS SCREENING & GRIT CHAMBER Wastewater is screened to remove trash, sand and grit. BIOLOGICAL NUTRIENT REMOVAL (BNR) Micro-organisms consume organics and remove nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus. A portion of the biosolids from the Clarifier are recycled back to the beginning of the BNR process to help continue the work of consuming organics. BIOSOLIDS DRYER Biosolids are processed in the Town's drying facility which removes water and creates fertilizer known as Enviro Gems. CLARIFIER Micro-organisms and small particles, called biosolids, separate from the water, making the treated water clear. As biosolids accumulate over time, some is removed and sent to the biosolids dryer.
