13 Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Softball Softball The Pitcher & Catcher Positions—Intermediate (age 11–17) This clinic reinforces proper pitching mechanics and introduces drills to increase pitch speed and power generated from legs and core. Also covered is proper grip and the spin and body rotation for change-ups and movement pitches (if the player is ready for those pitches). For catchers, this clinic reviews solid positioning, framing, blocking, and footwork. We will also work on bunt coverage, diving for balls, throwing from the knees, fast pops, throw-downs, and how to be a leader on the field. Location: Mills Park Softball Field Instructor: Town of Cary Softball Instructors Fees: $30(R) $39(N) (1 class) 111076 Sun Mar 4 2:30–4 p.m. Volleyball League & Classes Girls Volleyball League (age 11–16) Volleyball leagues for girls age 11–13 and 14–16 will play on Mon, Wed and/or Thu nights (usually 1–2 nights per week) beginning May 16. The season will last until mid to late July. Our league is recommended for those who have participated in other volleyball leagues or Town of Cary Volleyball skills classes. Those without experience in organized leagues should consider the Volleyball Skills Classes beginning in April. Registration is for individuals only. Location: Bond Park Community Center (primarily); Green Hope Elementary School (occasionally) Fees: $50(R) $75(N) 110945 Age 11–13 110946 Age 14–16 Youth Volleyball Skills Class (age 9–12) This class is designed for those new to the game of volleyball or with less experience. The goals are to learn and develop the basic skills and techniques involved in playing volleyball. The focus will be on fundamentals at each participant's individual level of skill and experience as these fundamentals are applied to game situations. Location: Bond Park Community Center Fees: $84(R) $109(N) (8 classes) 109658 Tue,Thu Apr 17–May 10 5:45–7:15 p.m. 109659 Tue,Thu *May 29–Jun 22 5:45–7:15 p.m. Teen Volleyball Skills Class (age 13–16) Participants advance their individual skills (such as serving, passing, setting, and hitting) and learn the rotations, rules, and offensive strategies of the game. Instruction will be modified for the participant's level of play and skills are applied to game situations. This class is excellent preparation for the Cary Youth League played in June and July.
