His work varies from landscape to still life to figure, though always derived from close observation of his surroundings. Sandra Elliott: Pieces of Me Page-Walker Arts & History Center Tuesday, February 6—Saturday, March 3 Artist Reception: Friday, February 23 | 6–8 p.m. Medium: Mixed Media "Sometimes the parts of the sum are more interesting and tell the bigger story. This show delves into dismantling and rejoining past work, putting it together in an entirely new way, following the journey of failure, and successes and how they all play a role in the artist that I am now and the work I am creating," states Elliott. There is no color to distract or amaze. The members of The Focus have gathered their favorite black and white photos to demonstrate elements that make this genre of photography timeless. Now is the time to see their talents and meet these teachers! This exhibit is sure to impress while you decide which classes to take this Winter-Spring. John W. Redfern: Beaches Herbert C. Young Community Center Gallery Wednesday, January 17—Sunday, February 18 Artist Reception: Friday, January 26 | 6–8 p.m. Medium: Photography Redfern has served as the official photographer for MLK, JR. Dreamfest. He has received training at Saint Augustine's College, Raleigh-Durham Art Institute, as well a through his life experiences. This series of photographs capture the coastline during past vacations. J.J. Raia: A Photographer's Journey Cary Arts Center Gallery Wednesday, January 17—Sunday, February 18 Artist Reception: Friday, January 26 | 6–8 p.m. Medium: Photography A compilation of work resulting from over 25 years of photo adventures encompassing a diverse vision that continues to develop today. The exhibit will entail both color and black and white work, grand and intimate landscapes, natural abstractions, as well a few forays into uncharted territories. Shannon Johnstone: Landfill Dogs Cary Arts Center Principal's Hall Wednesday, January 17–Sunday, February 18 Artist Reception: Friday, January 26 | 6–8 p.m. Medium: Photography Johnstone shares, "Each week I bring a dog from the county animal shelter and photograph him/her at Landfill Park, a former landfill converted into a public park. This landscape offers a metaphor of hope. It is a place of trash that has been transformed into a place of beauty. I hope the viewer also sees the beauty in these homeless, unloved creatures."
