SPECIAL INTERESTS PART TWO 134 REGISTER ONLINE: classweb.townofcary.org Workshops Jewish Culture Learning Series This is a series of classes and workshops on Jewish culture and tradition, meant to engage both Jewish and non-Jewish community members into gaining insight into Jewish contemporary interpretation of issues. Presented in collaboration with the Raleigh-Cary Jewish Community Center. Location: Page-Walker Arts & History Center SHALOM Y'ALL: JEWS IN THE SOUTH Today many southern cities, including Raleigh, have a sizeable Jewish community. How did they get here and why did they come? How did they impact the community? What was it like to be a Jew in the South? Let's journey down Southern byways and discover an interesting piece of history. (age 3–5) Join us for this aerospace engineering adventure with forces that impact flight. The budding engineers will make paper choppers, gliding seeds, balancing acrobats, and more! Students will experiment with super-sticky- stuff, explore glow-in-the-dark technology, mix potions, make slime, and grow crystals! Each student will take home a full set of Mad Science lab gear. Location: Bond Park Community Center Instructor: Mad Science Fees: $165(R) $195(N) (8 classes) 110766 Mon Jan 22–Mar 12 5–6 p.m. Discovering Science (age 6–10) In this class, students will have an opportunity to explore many exciting and hands-on areas of science! Build a thermometer and heat things with friction. Make a rainbow out of white light. See a magnetic accelerator in action. Make some noise with your sonic horn. Take home fun science items each week! Location: Middle Creek Community Center Instructor: Mad Science Fees: $166(R) $196(N) (8 classes) 110891 Mon Jan 29–Mar 19 5–6 p.m. Let's Build Robots—Crazy Action Contraption (age 6–14) We'll be making some very crazy and bizarre contraptions. Imaginations can go wild with ideas on how to create mechanical wonders. With motors, gears, pulleys, wheels of various sizes, and tons of other cool LEGO ® pieces at your disposal, this class will show you what craziness is all about!
