VISUAL ARTS PART TWO 50 REGISTER ONLINE: classweb.townofcary.org Metals and Jewelry Beginning Jewelry Wax Carving (age 16 & up) Carving wax is a great technique for creating jewelry. You can carve intricate and complex details that can't be achieved in metal fabrication. Learn to make sculptural jewelry using additive and/or subtractive techniques. Cast at least one of your pieces in metal (sterling silver). Carving tools and wax are provided. Students are responsible for the casting fee and metal. Silver soldering, sawing, forging, finishing, and surface embellishment techniques will be covered. Using sheet metal and wire, create projects of your own. Supplies can be purchased at the Cary Arts Center. Successful completion of this class satisfies your eligibility for an Open Studio pass. Instructor: David Tomlin Fees: $91(R) $117(N) (1 class) 109798 Sat Jan 20 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Intermediate Jewelry Wax Carving (age 16 & up) In this intermediate and advanced level wax carving workshop, you will explore in-depth wax model-making techniques. Create either a ring or pendant with cabochon gemstones. Students will have one of their pieces in metal (sterling silver) and learn how to set the stone. All carving tools and wax are provided. NEW! Fused Glass, Intermediate I (age 16 & up) Learn new techniques as you explore reactions that create beautifully-colored glass art. When necessary, techniques will be explored on a small-scale piece with the intention of students perfecting their skills on their own. Glass for use at the Cary Arts Center is $1 per ounce. Instructor will cover how to create a balanced design, cutting, nipping, and placement of pieces into your pattern. Appropriate substrates, adhesives, and sealers will also be discussed. All materials are included in the price of the class.
