Often, a thought becomes an idea, the idea becomes a drawing, and then each thought becomes integrated as one to form a painting based on the whimsical. Mike Slobot: Robots on Every Corner Page-Walker Arts & History Center Tuesday, July 3–Saturday, August 4 Artist Reception: Friday, July 27 | 6–8 p.m. Media: Mixed, paintings, and sculptures Slobot is a pop artist who has been creating his signature robots, called "Slobots," in a variety of forms—from 3D sculptures to paintings, and some things in between— since about 2004. He uses his Slobots to explore human emotion and everyday human experience. Sonia Kane: On the Way: Painting the Camino de Santiago Town Hall Gallery Friday, June 29–Friday, August 24 Artist Reception: Friday, June 29 | 6–8 p.m. Medium: Oil paintings In the summer of 2015, Kane embarked on a long-awaited, two-week, 150-mile pilgrimage. Beginning in southwest France and hiking through the Pyrenees into northern Spain, experience the beauty and peace of this pilgrimage through the eyes of an artist as she shares her journey of paintings into the Camino de Santiago. Amy Devereaux: Morocco Herbert C. Young Community Center Gallery Friday, June 29–Saturday, August 25 Artist Reception: Friday, June 29 | 6–8 p.m. Medium: Photography The artist visited Morocco on a 13-day Gate1Travel Tour February 22–March 7, 2017, where she visited Casablanca, Rabat, Fez, Erfoud, Rissani, Ouarzazate, and Marrakesh. Devereaux describes "the experience of meeting Moroccans and seeing spectacular and interesting sites was wonderful and created incredible opportunities to produce insightful photographs." ART55 Cary Senior Center Monday, June 25–Friday, July 20 Artist Reception: Friday, June 29 | 3–5 p.m. Media: Mixed Cosponsored by the Friends of the Cary Senior Center and the Fine Arts League of Cary, this show will feature two-dimensional art made by local residents over the age of 55.
