Silver soldering, sawing, forging, finishing, and surface embellishments are just some of the techniques covered. Using sheet metal and wire, students will have an opportunity to create projects of their own. Supplies can be purchased at the Cary Arts Center. Variations of bezel settings, flush setting (gypsy), and prong or basket setting will be covered. Students should bring 3mm and 8mm round faceted stones plus a cabochon. Students should have completed an intermediate metals class or an orientation. Students will learn the techniques of applying enamel to small precut copper shapes to create a colorful and unique charm. Copper pieces are purchased from the Cary Art Center and all pieces are kiln fired during class. Students will create cabochons in variations of shapes for use in jewelry designs. Tools are provided for use. Metals and stones are available for purchase through the Cary Arts Center.
