Participants will get a chance to experiment with some provided materials and get a brief tutorial. Materials included in cost of workshop. Instructor: Michael Polomik Fees: $30(R) $39(N) (1 class) 114390 Sat Jul 28 9 a.m.–noon Landscape Painting in Oil (age 16 & up) This course teaches students to use paint to achieve illusions of depth in nature and natural textures such as plant life, clouds, earth, and water. The course is designed to accommodate both beginners and experienced painters. Mediums and materials will be discussed, but the bulk of the course will focus on color, light, and technique. Instructor: Michael Polomik Fees: $73(R) $95(N) (4 classes) 114376 Tue Aug 7–28 7–9:30 p.m. Introduction to Abstract Painting (age 16 & up) In this introductory class, students will investigate a variety of painting techniques and mark-making used to create personal works of art. While drawing inspiration from past Abstract Expressionist painters, this class will offer a wonderful way to explore paint handling, color theory, and composition. Supply list provided on receipt. Instructor: Kimberly Cordray Fees: $88(R) $114(N) (6 classes) 114385 Mon Jul 23–Aug 27 7–9 p.m. ACRYLICS OR OILS Painting Luminous Landscapes (age 16 & up) Learn the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists concepts of Cezanne, Monet, and Van Gogh. Learn how to capture sunlight, create deep shadows, and luminous color. Create paintings using a limited palette, complementary colors, and thick application of paint. Instructor: Eric McRay Fees: $109(R) $139(N) (5 classes) 114386 Mon Jun 4–Jul 9 1:30–4:30 p.m. (No class July 2) Putting Life Back in Still Lifes (age 16 & up) Learn to use acrylic or oil paints to create fun, colorful, still life paintings in the tradition of Picasso, Matisse, and Wayne Thiebaud. Learn about techniques and styles of Cubism, Fauvism, and Pop art. Choose your favorite still life subjects while expressing your personal sense of whimsy, humor, and tradition. Receive instruction in drawing, composition, underpainting, color mixing, and application using techniques of classical painting.
