This class offers tips and techniques to help you create truly spectacular cakes and cupcakes. All supplies are provided, including a cake box to take home your beautiful culinary masterpieces. Location: Herbert C Young Community Center Instructor: Nancy Chinnock Fees: $39(R) $50(N) (1 Class) CUPCAKES BOUQUET Instead of a bouquet of flowers, how about a bouquet of cupcakes? Add a fondant bow and icing leaves to your colorful bouquet of iced cupcakes. 113588 Thu Jun 7 6–8 p.m. FLORAL CUPCAKES AND CREAM CHEESE MINTS Ice and decorate your cupcakes in summertime floral colors. Then, learn how to make the perfect cream cheese mint. 113589 Thu Jul 19 6–8 p.m. FLORAL CUPCAKES Learn the technique of piping buttercream flowers. You will create a colorful floral design to adorn the cupcakes. Take them home to share with family and friends. 113590 Thu Aug 9 10 a.m. –noon Location: Middle Creek Community Center CUPCAKES & FONDANT BUTTERFLIES Learn the technique of cutting out fondant figures and designs. You'll create a colorful butterfly design to adorn the cupcakes. Then, learn how to make the perfect cream cheese mint. 114523 Mon Aug 6 6–8 p.m. Nature Education Hemlock Nature Quest (age 13–15) Journey to the far corners of the Preserve on a quest to find nature rarely seen by the public or other program participants. Dress for the weather and off-trail conditions. Participants are eligible to volunteer as program assistants for our younger nature programs. Location: Stevens Nature Center/Hemlock Bluffs Fees: $8(R) $10(N) (1 class) SWIFT CREEK SURVEY Join us as we search for salamanders, crayfish, snakes, and other summer wildlife. Equipment provided. 114772 Sat Jun 30 10 a.m.–noon Outdoor Recreation Kayaking (age 11–17) An introduction to kayaking, this three-hour class covers the basics of the sport, including safety, proper stroke technique, braces, wet exiting, and rescues. The class is taught by a certified British Canoe Union Instructor. Kayak rental is included. Location: Fred G.
