SERVE Meeting Community Needs 42 CLASS OF 2040 C A RY, N O RT H C A R O L I N A F Y 2 0 25 4 T H Q U A R T E R R E P O R T WAT E R A N D S E W E R P R OJ E C T S T U R Q U O I S E C R E E K D R I V E Cary completed the Turquoise Creek Drive Water Main Replacement Project, installing 2,600 feet of new water main and 890 feet of new sewer main. This project replaced the aging, undersized 6-inch PVC water main serving the Preston neighborhood with a modern 8-inch ductile iron water main. The new 8-inch water main along Turquoise Creek Drive, Preston Ridge Court, and Cloud Crossing Circle will eliminate future disruption of service and provide residents with reliable water service for years to come. LO C H M E R E In June, a contractor working on behalf of Cary completed rehabilitation of sewer lines in the vicinity of Lochmere Drive at Lake Lomond (the lake with the walking trail in Lochmere). Cary coordinated with the Lochmere Homeowners Association to assemble a system of temporary pumps and piping to divert sewer flows away from the pipes being cleaned and rehabilitated. The contractor then installed cured-in-place pipe liners in sewer lines on both sides of the dam, as well as through the dam, to ensure the structural integrity of these lines for another 50 years. B R I E R C R E E K This quarter, Cary installed temporary piping along a portion of Aviation Parkway where it crosses Lake Crabtree. This will enable the second phase of the Brier Creek Sewer Interceptor Project, which involves cleaning and rehabilitating the 42-inch trunk line sewer along the west side of Lake Crabtree in the vicinity of Aviation Parkway. This project's third and final phase will rehabilitate sewer lines to Evans Road. Construction is scheduled to be completed by this winter. L E W E Y D R I V E Construction is underway on the Lewey Drive Utilities and Street Improvements Project. This project will install about 6,000 feet of 12-inch, 24-inch, and 30-inch water main to strengthen service reliability for Cary residents and add a 650-foot sidewalk near Turner Creek Elementary to improve walkability. Early construction activities began in June and include sewer relocation on Fryar Creek Drive and utility work at the corner of Lewey Drive and N.C. 55, which will necessitate some daytime lane closures. The project is scheduled to continue through winter 2027. Cary staff is working closely with the contractor to minimize disruption and keep the community informed. Each year, this program focuses on water mains that are vulnerable to unexpected service interruptions and repairs due to age and condition. While replacing the water main, any necessary sewer repairs or replacement are addressed prior to repaving and restoration. The fiscal year 2025 project included 3,325 feet of new water main and 1,900 feet of new sewer main in and around downtown. It focused on portions of Union Street, Madison Avenue, Boyd Street, and the Oakwood Heights neighborhood along King Street, Linda Court, Sycamore Street, and Red Bud Court. Water main connections were made along Downing Glen Drive, Midland Valley Way, and Elmhaven Way in Morrisville, eliminating dead ends and enhancing water quality and system resiliency.
