During the program, students explored Cary's organizational structure and municipal law and toured numerous parks and facilities to gain a broad understanding of local government operations. Drawing on their experiences, staff insights, and independent research, the students tackled a challenging question: Based on observed patterns of invasive species and their proximity to various land use features, which areas should be prioritized for habitat restoration, and why? In response, the group created a sophisticated prioritization matrix that evaluated urgency and feasibility for addressing invasive species across multiple Cary parks. Their presentation included thoughtful and practical policy recommendations for future land management strategies.
