In May, the Cary Town Council, Historic Preservation
Commission, Friends of the Page-Walker, and other community
members gathered to celebrate the restoration of a Cary
treasure. Built in the early 1870s, the Ivey-Ellington House is a
rare example of Gothic Revival cottage architecture that is now
beautifully rehabilitated. Attendees were welcomed by the warm
gleam of refinished hardwood floors, meticulously restored
windows, and a stately new synthetic cedar-shake style roof
that honors the home's original charm. As groups toured the
home, visitors experienced a tangible connection to Cary's past
in one of Wake County's most unique architectural landmarks.
Public tours will be available beginning in August for those who
want to gain more perspective on Cary's historic preservation
practices. In addition, the Ivey-Ellington House enters a new
chapter as office space for Downtown Cary Park staff, blending
historic preservation with purposeful modern use.
