From hands-on volunteer projects to educational workshops and family-friendly activities, staff designed experiences that deepened the community's connection to the environment and each other. Highlights included the Earth Day Proclamation recognizing Green Hope High School and the Spruce Program, along with popular events like Science in the Spillway and Sustainable Spirits. These efforts reflect Cary's ongoing commitment to sustainability and resilience and align with the recently adopted Sustainability and Climate Action Strategy. Once dominated by new development, Cary is experiencing a surge in infill redevelopment, prompting the need to retool how staff manage construction site impacts. In response, Cary's Stormwater Division launched a new redevelopment oversight program tailored to this emerging trend. With more than 180 active redevelopment sites today, this structured program includes plan reviews, inspections, and tracking throughout each project's duration. Previously, Cary addressed sediment and erosion issues on a case-by-case basis, but that reactive approach is no longer sustainable. The new program has significantly reduced complaints about off-site sediment and helped keep Cary's streets and waterways clean.
