Discovery Days Mini Camps (age 8–12) Where has all the time gone? This is how our instructors feel at times in our shorter programs. Sometimes we just want to hike farther, delve deeper, or create a bigger, better project. Children will get to know each other, their instructor, and nature to preserve plants and animals a little better. Rock climbing, tumbling, hip hop, endless skills across the floor, crafts, wacky relays and games will be sure to wear them out! Location: Herbert C. Young Community Center Instructor: Maggie Witter Fees: $149(R) $179(N) (5 classes) 96702 Mon-Fri Oct 10–14 9 a.m.-noon T4 Mechanical Engineering— Master Mechanics (age 7–10) Students will use the engineering design process to design, create, test, and improve a variety of machines and mechanical systems. Students learn basics of energy, traction, aerodynamics, and durability while constructing roller coasters, extreme defense vehicles, and an incredibly fast, air-powered custom dragster. Young Community Center Instructor: Engineering for Kids Fees: $133(R) $163(N) (3 classes) 97280 Mon, Wed, Fri Sep 19–23 1–4 p.m. T1 Foods Around the World (age 7–10) If you like cooking or want to learn how to cook, join Chef Laura and cook up something good from three different countries. Not only will you prepare and enjoy the food, you will also learn about the country, its food, and basic nutrition. Location: Herbert C. Young Community Center Instructor: Laura Gnewuch Fees: $100(R) $130(N) (3 classes) 97846 Wed-Fri Oct 19–21 9 a.m.-noon T4 Nature Education and Outdoor Recreation classes may involve traveling over rough or uneven terrain. To help prevent injuries, closed-toed footwear is required. Rubber boots, hiking shoes, or sneakers are recommended; do not wear flip-flops, Crocs, sandals, or other open-toed shoes. Bare feet are absolutely prohibited! PROTECT YOU FEET! DISCOVER WILDLIFE AROUND YOU!
