Have questions about glazes in general? This glazing refresher will recap everything you learned in your beginning class and answer all those questions that have developed since working on your own in the studio. This course offers hands on experience in the carbon trap shino firing process, including glazing pieces, loading, firing, and unloading the kiln. Pieces will be fired offsite. A firing fee of $25 per person is due the day of the firing. Learn which clays are most suitable for Raku; experiment with a variety of Raku glazes; learn the safest processes for this exciting glaze method; and explore post firing techniques and finishing. Prerequisite required. Instructor: William Kasapidis Fees: $43(R) $55(N) (3 classes) 101141 Wed Apr 26–May 24 7–9:30 p.m. (no class May 3 & 10) Peeling the Onion… (age 16 & up) …without all the tears. Focus on creating dynamic, layered, and interesting ceramic surfaces. We'll look at building up slip, terra sigalatta surfaces, backgrounds to enhance, enliven the ceramic surface and provide dynamic, layered backgrounds for glazes to interact with. The bulk of the workshop will be spent discussing and exploring leather hard and bone dry applications. Participants should be able to center and throw at least 2+ pounds of clay and/or comfortably hand build forms to experiment with.
