VISUAL ARTS PART TWO 50 REGISTER ONLINE: classweb.townofcary.org Open Studio Orientation: Metals and Jewelry (age 15 & up) This workshop is intended for those with previous metals and jewelry experience not acquired through the Town of Cary. Students wish to fulfi ll the prerequisite for advanced level courses and to use the Metals and Jewelry studio. Includes: orientation to the studio, metals equipment, studio safety, and procedures. All participants must pass a written skills test in order to be issued an Open Studio Membership Pass. Appointments available. Instructor: David Tomlin Fees: $25(R) $30(N) (1 class) 101308 Wed Mar 22 4:30–6 p.m. Cuttlefi sh Casting (age 16 & up) Cuttlefi sh casting is a simple and traditional metal-casting technique. Because cuttlebone can withstand high temperatures and is easily carved, it serves as mold- making material for small metal casting for the creation of jewelry and small sculptural objects. The fi nished product has a unique, wood-grained looking texture. Instructor: Hsiang-Ting Yen Fees: $98(R) $125(N) (2 classes) 100812 Sun Mar 26–Apr 2 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Metals and Jewelry Concentration (age 16 & up) Take your work to the next level! Refi ne your metalworking skills focusing on design and construction. Students will design and develop new projects of interest tackling projects such as band ring designs, cabochon setting, small objects, etc. Supplies can be purchased at CAC. Metals available for purchase. Prerequisite: Beginning Metals at Cary Arts Center. Instructor: Linda Simpson Fees: $101(R) $131(N) (5 classes) 100809 Tue Mar 28–Apr 25 6:30–9:30 p.m. Etching (age 16 & up) Use a sharpie to free-hand draw a design or use Press-n- Peel (PNP) blue paper to use exact details from images printed from a computer. In addition, you will learn how to form a cuff, so you can create a cuff with your unique patterns. Metal can be purchased in class. Prerequisite: Beginning Metals and Jewelry class. Instructor: Hsiang-Ting Yen Fees: $98(R) $125(N) (2 classes) 100813 Sun Jan 29–Feb 5 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Intro to Lapidary: Cabochons (age 16 & up) Learn basic skills to plan, select material, use machines and tools to cut, shape, and polish semi-precious and precious gemstones. Students will create cabochons in variations of shapes for use in jewelry designs. Setting the stones will also be covered. Tools are provided for use. Metals and stones are available for purchase. Instructor: David Tomlin Fees: $156(R) $186(N) (6 classes) 100811 Mon Feb 27–Apr 3 6:30–9:30 p.m. Metals and Jewelry: Intermediate I (age 16 & up) Expand your skills working independently to hone your metalsmithing techniques. Learn how to make a silver ring with bezel set stone setting, a decorative silver chain bracelet, and a soldered hollow-formed pendant. Tools will be provided, and a material purchase list will be provided after registration. Some metals and wire available for purchase. Prerequisite required. Instructor: Hsiang-Ting Yen Fees: $114(R) $144(N) (5 classes) 100817 Wed Feb 22–Mar 22 6:30–9:30 p.m. Enameling 101 (age 16 & up) Learn how to play with opaque color powdered enamels along with basic enameling techniques, including kiln- fi ring, sifting, graffi ti, and sgraffi to. You will explore the unlimited colors and patterns possibilities with your own creations. Tools provided. There is a one-hour break for lunch each day. Metals can be purchased. Prerequisite required. Instructor: Hsiang-Ting Yen Fees: $91(R) $117(N) (2 classes) 100815 Sun Feb 26–Mar 5 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Early registration allows us time to plan appropriately. Often times we are able to accommodate those on waiting lists by adding additional spots in the class or adding additional classes. Classes that do not meet their minimum enrollment are generally cancelled. You could make the difference. DON'T WAIT!
