You are largely water; life on earth couldn't exist without it. Earth's climate depends on water. What is it about water that makes it so special? You are made of chemicals, so what are they and what do they do? You are also made up of some stem cells, but we all hope no cancer cells. You obviously are not made up of plant cells. So, what is a cell? How do they work? So, what are those plans and patterns? How do we decide which critter is related to which? But, despite all the wars, what about the lesser discussed political achievements from Medieval Europe's Dark Age? Also, in America government checks and balances: a guard against dictatorship or a fear of mobs! We will explore the western mindset: western reverence for the literary theme of tragedy, i.e., the flawed hero. 'Faith and Reason' (religion vs. science), 'Human Nature vs. Political-Econ system, Individualism vs. Conformity, Geography as driver of Necessity. Finally, why do they hate us, is it a clash of civilizations, cultural differences or are there simpler reasons? BOARD GAMES Whether you prefer checkers to Scrabble or chess to backgammon, grab a friend or two and play one of our games. Games are stored in Classroom 303. MOVIES Watch movies at the Cary Senior Center. Check with the front desk for room availability. A brief orientation is required before the first use.
