This chart illustrates the total materials collected (tonnage) for the first three quarters of the fiscal year (July-March) for both FY14 and FY15. The estimated number of households served with collection services is over 47,678. Solid Waste/Yard Waste Collected, Comparison Water demand for the quarter averaged 15.3 million gallons per day, an 0.8 million gallons per day increase over the same period in 2014. In March, Cary/Apex Water Treatment Facility implemented a change in the drinking water treatment process, part of the Town's annual switchover from chloramines disinfection to free chlorine. Following state requirements, the Town implemented the change for the month of March. This practice is part of the annual distribution preventative maintenance program to help maintain water quality throughout the year. Typically, the Town receives customer calls related to the temporary changes in the taste of drinking water. This year, very few customer calls were received related to this changeover. South Cary Water Reclamation Facility (SCWRF) staff completed a week long maintenance shutdown of the thermal biosolids drying facility during January. Numerous maintenance objectives were completed. The thermal biosolids facility processed 7.8 million gallons of biosolids for North Cary WRF, South Cary WRF and the Town of Apex during the first quarter of 2015, resulting in 890 dry tons of Class A, Exceptional Quality pelletized biosolids product for beneficial reuse to customers as an organic soil amendment and fertilizer. The SCWRF was featured in the April edition of "Treatment Plant Operator" magazine for its work using landscaping improvements to blend with the surrounding community and focused on how landscaping was used to facilitate and improve good neighbor relationships with the adjacent community. Reclaimed Water Holiday In 2007, the Town implemented an annual reclaimed water holiday to allow for maintenance of the many components of the reclaimed water systems, such as tanks, pumps, pipes and valves. Notification letters were sent to 730 customers, including residential, commercial and industrial users. During the 10 day holiday, no complaints were received from reclaimed water customers. The maintenance operations were completed on schedule and operations resumed immediately following the holiday. Wastewater collection, treatment and water reclamation The diversion rate with yard waste in FY15 is 51.3% and without yard waste is 27%.
