Downtown Cary Happenings Annelore's German Bakery began demolition on their W. Chatham Street location and are finalizing plans for their new building. The RFP for the Jones House has been posted for several months and the Town has so far received 5 promising proposals. Staff is reviewing proposals and conducting follow-up interviews as appropriate. There is no time frame to lease this property as the goal is to find the best tenant. Now Open! Cedar Street Public parking lot is now complete and was finished 70% under budget Dedication & Grand Opening of Jack Smith Park On September 10, hundreds of citizens, family and friends of Council member Jack Smith gathered to celebrate the opening of the park, which includes Cary's first spray- ground and second dog park. The Town's newest park also includes a children's play area, climbing rock, picnic shelter, paved and unpaved trails, and an open lawn area. Chatham Street Chowdown On July 31, the third food truck rodeo to be hosted in Downtown Cary featured 23 food trucks, three breweries and a winery with attendance of 7,000. The chowdown featured two new attractions - the doggy bar, which provided water for dogs, and a kids area with various activities. Public art made its debut at the Jack Smith Park. Whirligigs by nationally known artist Vollis Simpson were installed as a key feature at the Park. Additionally, nine concrete Suffolk Sheep by NC artist William Moore also graze in the pasture land behind the playground.
