Cross Connection Residential Program OPERATIONS Per state statute, all public utilities require a test of any residential customer with an irrigation system, excluding reclaimed systems. Annually, the Town provides an "Opt-Out" option that allows citizens to either utilize the Town's contractor, or have the test performed by a certified tester on their own. Testing began in early June and ran through September. The charts show participation and results of tested devices. In 2016, staff tested 5,203 devices and saw a failure rate of 7 percent. The failure rate in 2015 was 11 percent. Water System Demand Water demand for the quarter averaged approximately 21.2 million gallons per day (MGD) which was 0.4 MGD less than the same period in 2015. Compared with last year, the Town has experienced above- normal rainfall during most of the summer months. Reclaimed Water Reclaimed water is a valuable resource produced from wastewater that is highly treated using not only a biological nutrient removal and filtration process, but also disinfected with ultra-violet light and sodium hypochlorite. Demand for the quarter averaged approximately 39.7 million gallons per month which was approximately 10 million gallons per month less than the same period in 2015. The reduction in reclaimed demand during the summer, which is substantially influenced by irrigation, is likely due to above-average rainfall during the summer months.
