OPERATIONS Water System Demand Water demand for the quarter averaged approximately 17.9 million gallons per day, which was 1.2 million gallons per day higher than the same period in 2015. Sewer System Maintenance & Rehabilitation An important element of the Town's wastewater collection management includes the maintenance and inspection of sewer infrastructure to control the impacts of inflow and infiltration of groundwater and rain water that enters the sewer system through leaking joints and aging pipes. The Town conducts a comprehensive investigations program to reduce the volume of extraneous water entering the Town's wastewater collection system, improve overall performance and prevent sanitary sewer overflows. This has been successful in removing settled debris from larger pipelines, resulting in improved flow and increased capacity. Another strategy for identifying inflow entry points using sewer-safe "smoke" fed into the wastewater collection system to identify failed service connections. Pipeline cleaning Smoke Testing Video Inspections Cameras are used to identify structural defects and leaking sewer joints in need of repair and rehabilitation. Failing locations in the system are prioritized and scheduled for repair and rehabilitation.
