Creating Active Retirement Years Cary hosted three N.C. Senior Games clinics with participants from across the state. Cary Senior Center staff entered over 500 registrations and is currently overseeing the Wake County Senior Games as the Local Coordinator for the fourth year in a row. In addition, the Town hosted the 2016 Annual Health Fair on March 17 with over 200 participants and over 40 vendors, providing free information and health screenings. Senior Center Participation/Visitor Quarterly Comparison DID YOU KNOW? For the first time, youth basketball for ages 9-18 transitioned to zone-based registration, scheduling and league management in the Winter 2015/2016 season. Participation increased almost four percent. One of the major objectives for this zone-based initiative was to have participants practice and play games closer to home. Staff conducted a post-season participant survey with 424 responses (27.9% response rate). Over 86% of responses indicated they they were somewhat more or significantly more satisfied with the overall experience as compared to 2015. Additionally, the game schedule and practice schedule received an Above Average or Excellent rating from respondents. Cary Arts Center Applause! Cary Youth Theatre "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing" was performed in February. Over 120 kids auditioned for the production, making this the largest turnout in the last five years of production. All three performances were near sell-outs, drawing the largest audiences since 2011. The production brought in almost $8,000 in revenue, the highest in the last 10 years. The Clothesline Muse Created by, and featuring six-time Grammy Award Nominee Nneena Freelon, featured numerous components including a sold-out performance on March 18 and a visual arts residency with fifth graders at a local elementary school that used watercolor and tissue paper to create tissue paper art. World Voice Day In March, the Cary Arts Center hosted the Duke Voice Care Center in recognition of World Voice Day. Special guest Scotty McCreery was awarded the 2016 Patrick D. Kenan Award for Vocal Health and Wellness.
