Share & Care Event The second annual event was held at Herb Young Community Center. This year's event grew to over 30 agencies/organizations represented and over 150 people in attendance. Due to popularity, the location moved to the gym. The event is provided to persons with disabilities, their parents and care providers to show them what services our community has to offer. Two additional parent workshops were offered in February and March - "All About Coping Skills Kits" and "What to Look for in a Group Home or Care Provider Agency." These workshops, held at the Cary Senior Center, provide parents an opportunity to meet with a licensed professional counselor and discuss topics that are beneficial for their families. Endless Sports 3rd Annual Wheelchair Basketball Tournament was held in March at Bond Park. This event featured teams of able-bodied kids who learned to "roll with it" as they competed in a wheelchair basketball tournament. The tournament encourages able-bodied kids to become aware of obstacles faced by athletes with physical challenges every time they take the court. The PRCR Volunteer Recognition banquet was held March 22 with over 250 volunteers attending. The Town received 22 nominations for awards with nine presentations recognizing exceptional contributions. The Relief for Recreation Scholarship Fund received $8,351 in donations and the PRCR Advisory Board held the seventh annual silent auction and raised an additional $6,200 for the scholarship fund. DID YOU KNOW? The Town successfully filled all of the available garden plots with renters at the new Carpenter Park Community Garden. We expect to have the beds built in the month of May by SPRUCE volunteers and the gardeners in their plots by June 1. There were 20 regular plots available and two additional plots that are accessible to those with special needs. There is a waiting list of interested renters that include over 30 additional residents.
