NEWSFLASH Employees must notify HR and their supervisor at least 30 days before the requested leave is to begin. When 30-days' notice is not possible, the employee must provide notice as soon as possible and must comply with normal call-in and notification procedures. Leave FAMILY MEDICAL LEAVE Eligible employees under the FMLA are employees who: • Have at least 12 months of service with Cary and • Have worked at least 1,250 hours during the preceding 12 months. (Hours are regular hours worked only and do not include the use of any accrued time) and • Work at a site with at least 50 employees employed within a 75-mile radius of the work site. An eligible employee may take up to a total of 12 weeks of unpaid leave for the following: 1. The birth or adoption of the employee's child and to care for the newborn or newly adopted child; 2. Placement with the employee of a child for foster care; 3. To care for the employee's parent, spouse, or child with a serious health condition; 4. The employee's own serious health condition; or 5. A qualifying exigency Cary provides eligible employees with 120 hours of paid Family Medical Leave (FML), which must be used for the first 120 hours of an FMLA qualifying event. Thereafter, an employee must use his/her accrued and available leave, before requesting leave without pay. Cary retains an employee's benefits for the duration of the approved FMLA qualifying absence, so long as the employee pays their portion of premiums/rates. PARENTAL LEAVE An eligible employee may receive up to nine weeks (360 hours, prorated for part-time) of paid parental leave for the birth, adoption or placement of through adoption, foster care, or legal guardianship in accordance with the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). PPL may be used for up to 12 months after qualifying event and may only be received for one qualifying event in a rolling 12-month period. All PPL must be requested no later than 45 calendar days in advance, outlined on the Paid Parental Leave Agreement Form / Paid Parental Leave Agreement Form_FIRE and approved by the department director and HR before use. Once exhausted, an employee may request additional time. Total FML, PPL, and other leave shall not normally exceed six (6) months. More information can be found in the Paid Parental Leave Guidelines.
