"Keep it Loose in the
Cart" Campaign
In late spring, the Town determined that
recycling contamination was at a high rate of
9.8 percent. To better educate citizens about
what not to throw in the recycling cart, the
Town initiated a campaign that began with a
12 week survey of routes. Approximately 7 out
of 10 carts were tagged with an educational
cart hanger to educate residents.

The top three contaminates for
recycling are: plastic bags,
items in plastic bags and pizza
boxes.
The Cary News wrote an article about the
recycling survey and the awareness
campaign. The reporter did a ride-along with
Town of Cary Solid Waste workers to help
educate citizens about the survey.
