Traffic Safety Team (TST) Activities The TST conducted three campaigns this quarter, including School's In/Speed's Out, Booze It and Lose It, and Child Passenger Safety Week. Two TV interviews were conducted the first two weeks of the school year to raise awareness to school zones, school bus, and crosswalk safety. "Watch for Me, NC" crosswalk enforcement activities took place at Northwoods Elementary, Laurel Park Elementary and at Cary High School. The TST participated in multi-agency enforcement operations throughout the quarter resulting in 128 seat belt violations, 21 DWI violations and 63 miscellaneous violations. School Resource Officer Activities SRO's completed eight lockdown drills during the third quarter. One difference this year is that RED cards are only displayed in the window if there is an emergency in that particular room. Also, blinds on the windows will be left open to view from outside. A total of 14 crimes were reported in Cary schools during the third quarter (4 assaults; 1 larceny; 2 sex offense; 3 drug; 1 weapon; 3 vandalism.) The reported crime is a decrease from the second quarter when there were 23 reported crimes. Camp Confidence is a mentor program by the Police Department designed to develop and encourage positive interactions between police officers and Cary youth while teaching valuable life skills in a fun, interactive environment. Camp Confidence occurred in June and July with 18 boy campers and 14 girl campers. Did You Know? There were zero fatality motor vehicle crashes in Cary during the third quarter! There were 1,340 reported vehicle crashes. Four new communities joined Project PHOENIX during the third quarter, bringing the total number of participating communities to 48. The Town welcomes Boundary Village, Amberton at Stonewater, The Lodge at Crossroads and The Pointe at Weston! A total of 92 Project PHOENIX activities were held with partnering communities throughout the quarter. This map is a visual representation of where the 48 Project PHOENIX communities are located in Cary. Project PHOENIX and Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources (PRCR) completed this summer's mobile recreation program. PRCR provided two part-time employees to partner with PHOENIX to visit 12 communities and provide programs throughout the entire summer. Overall, there were 36 mobile recreation events this year with 334 kids participating in the events.
