Sanitary Sewer System Overflows The sanitary sewer system conveys approximately 17.8 million gallons per day to the Town's three wastewater treatment facilities. Town staff closely monitor and track sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) in accordance with regulatory requirements. In conveying over 6 billion gallons per year, the wastewater collection system has averaged less than 25,000 gallons per year in SSOs. Data for FY15 and the first quarter of 2015 projects SSOs to remain below the 5-year average. OPERATION MEDICINE DROP On March 21, Cary Police coordinated four drop locations across Town. The total weight collected on March 21st was 745 pounds of medicine. Additionally, Cary turned over to the State Bureau of Investigation 423 pounds of medicine that was collected in Police HQ lobby over the past 6 months. The total weight translates to 876,000 dosage units collected! K-9 Unit Activities The K-9 teams responded to 169 calls which resulted in the seizure of more than 14 grams of marijuana, 1.5 grams of cocaine, and 18 pieces of drug paraphernalia. School Resource Officers There were 26 reported crimes in Cary schools over the first quarter of 2015, which is a decrease from the 31 reported crimes in Q4 2014. Cary SROs conducted 14 lockdown drills, during the first quarter and conducted 2 K- 9 sweeps (Green Hope High School and Cary High School.) Overall, reported offenses shows a 6% increase over the same time period in 2014. This can be attributed to an increase in Part 1 offenses, and in particular, a sizable increase in our property crimes. We saw our largest increase in reported arsons (increase from 1-5), followed by burglaries (increase from 90-123), and motor vehicle thefts. Part 1 Violent Crimes - aggravated assault, forcible rape, murder, robbery; Part 2 Property Offenses - arson, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft. Police 2 Citizen Website Police and accident reports are now available online at the Town's new Police 2 Citizen website. Records dated from 2014 to current are available. Due to State and local law, some sensitive reports may not be available online but are still available by request. Citizens who do not have a computer or cannot locate a specific police report online can continue to obtain records in person or by mail/fax.
