USA Baseball National Training Complex (NTC) The USA Baseball Professional and Collegiate National Teams played an international series between Canada and Cuba in early July at the NTC. USA Baseball events during the third quarter consisted of 14U and 16U Cups, 11U, 13U, 17U and Women's National Team Identification Series. These events brought in over 75 youth teams from around the nation to compete in Cary. The Cary Tennis Championships was held September 13-20. It was the first men's professional tennis tournament hosted in Cary. Eight players who participated in the Championships also competed at the U.S. Open Championships. Dennis Novikov, who played at UCLA, won the singles tournament. Blaz Rola and Chase Buchannon captured the doubles title. Cary Tennis Park (CTP) July The Tennis Park hosted the USTA Boys and Girls 14 and under National Zone Team, the Z-Pizza Summer Championships for youth ages 8-18 and the Western Wake Tennis Association Summer Sizzle Adult Championships. August CTP hosted the NC State Summer Closed Championships The Duke James Bonk Collegiate Invitational was held at CTP. In addition to players from Duke, NCSU and UNC, other schools attended such as Notre Dame, Florida and Louisville. September SK8 Cary Action Sports summer camps had 276 participants for the period of July to September, which was an increase from the same period in 2014 that had 177 participants. Volunteers assisted SK8 staff and instructors for a total of 1,088 volunteer hours and a cost savings of $25,100 throughout the summer with various activities such as demonstrations, serving as greeters, and clean-up. An estimated 2,800 people attended the championships which generated $11,000 in ticket sales. Additionally, the on-line match streaming portal saw another 133,000 views.
